Welcome to ‘Meet The Abunai! Staff’, a column in which you’ll be introduced to our staff members. Staff members, they’re just like people! We’d love for you to get more acquainted with our dear volunteers and to accomplish this, they graciously agreed to be interviewed after I threatened them.
Prepare for trouble and make it double! Well, not really trouble unless you give their gophers a hard time. Then you’ll be in so much trouble there won’t even be time to make a Pokémon joke. In this edition of ‘Meet The Abunai! Staff’ I’ll introduce you to two of the kindest people you’ll ever meet – our gopher managers, Robin & Lynn.
Meet Robin & Lynn
Name: Robin
Age: 26
Height: 195cm
Blood type: I have no blood
Abunai! Position: Gopher Manager
Name: Lynn
Age: 27
Height: 185cm
Blood type: Depending on the moment of the day, O+ of O-
Abunai! Position: Gopher Manager
Tell us a bit about yourself!
Robin: I share most hobby’s with Lynn except for strolling and swimming, and my other hobbies include gaming, watching anime, and doing nothing XD.
Lynn: I’m not that good with these type of questions… If you want to know my hobby’s, well that’d be swimming, biking, strolling, theater and working in the garden.
Robin & Lynn: We have two cats Willemijn (7 years old) en Dali (1,5 years old). Dali is quite rowdy, but it’s still a cutie. We’ve been living together for 7 years in Marum, in Groningen. We’ve been together for 12 years and have been married for two years XD.
We’ve been gopher managers since 2010. Before we became staff in 2010 we were also active with Abunai! Robin was a gopher for two years and a steward for two years. Lynn was steward for four years.
What do you like most about (your position at) Abunai?
Robin & Lynn: We both enjoy the contact we have with our volunteers and the idea that we’re doing great things for Abunai! We can see direct result of our work on the convention. For example, if the info desk needs someone to help out we can arrange that.
What’s your favorite Abunai! memory?
Robin: 2015. A gopher came up to us on Sunday afternoon and said to us: “I’ve never experienced a convention where they take such great care of their volunteers”.
Lynn: 2008. We had cottages at Landal and there were visitors that couldn’t find their cottage. Before we knew it there were lots of visitors on our doorstep. It was raining so we let them in and called staff at the convention that they needed to fix this problem. Long story short, it was a very fun evening with very little sleep XD.
What is your alignment?
Robin: Chaotic Neutral.
Lynn: A bit Evil.
Do you prefer weeb or otaku?
Robin: Otaku. I’m a real anime lover.
Lynn: Okay, I gotta confess… I don’t have anything with anime. But on the other hand, I really, really enjoy conventions.
If you were a magical girl, what style would your outfit be and what would your power be?
Robin: I have no idea, I never fantasized about being a woman.
Lynn: ….. I’ll owe you this answer.
Playstation, PC, Xbox, or Nintendo?
Robin & Lynn: Nintendo!
Lynn: Robin infected me with love for Nintendo consoles.
If you were to write a self-insert fic, to which anime/manga/game would you transport yourself to?
Robin: Zelda. I’ve played Zelda games for years.
Lynn: Kirby. It’s a really nice and cute game.
And with which character would you start a relationship?
Robin: With the princess of course.
Lynn: No….. Nope…. Not even gonna start with this one…
Favorite karaoke song? Please note that you (may) have to sing your answer at the convention 😉
Robin: I don’t sing. The last time I sang people couldn’t stop laughing. [Editor’s note: please don’t laugh at others singing karaoke, no matter how out of tune they sing.]
Lynn: I’m a real Coldplay fan and I really enjoy singing along to Ink. But you don’t want to hear that.
If you could Cosplay as anyone regardless of your skill(s), who would you Cosplay as?
Robin: Samus Aran – Light Suit (if I ever finish that cosplay -_-)
Lynn: I don’t do that.
What are you looking most forward to this Abunai?
Robin & Lynn: Seeing our volunteers and friends.
Anything else you’d like to share?
We hope that people see Abunai! for what it is, not just as some small thing people put together in their spare time for fun. A lot of hard word and time has gone into the convention. As gopher managers, we work and are busy all year long for our people, even though it may not seem that way.
